Cambridge AI Startup Raises £10 Million Series A Round, a Cambridge-based startup that is building an Artificial Intelligence platform able to make decisions, has raised £10 million ($13 million) in a Series A round from Cambridge Innovation Capital and Atlantic Bridge Capital. Passion Capital, Amadeus Capital Partners and SGInnovate also backed the round.

A brainchild of Aleksi Tukiainen,  Dongho Kim and Vishal Chatrath (the latter two used to work for AI company VocalIQ, now an Apple subsidiary),  was founded in January 2016, and previously raised £1.5 million in afunding round in September last year.

The company is harnessing techniques such as reinforced learning, game theory and probabilistic modelling to create  smart systems able to make choices when interacting with humans and other AIs.

The technology—which is still to be launched— could find several applications in fields such as gaming, self-driving cars, smart city tech, and robotics.

“This investment will allow us to expand our already world-leading team of academics with even greater research muscle and will enable us to take further steps to bring our technology to market,” CEO Vishal Chatrath said in a statement.

“As a team, we are ready and eager to take the business to the next stage and continue solving some of the hardest machine learning problems to deliver the world’s first principled AI decision making platform.”
