China and Russia start AI collaboration

Russia’s Center for Artificial Intelligence Research at The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and Huawei started collaborating on artificial intelligence projects, according to a press release published on Monday on the MIPT website.

As the first step of this collaboration, Huawei has translated into Chinese the Artificial Intelligence report (Almanac), released by the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research in June.

The report, which provides an overview of the current state of the AI industry in Russia and worldwide, will allow Chinese experts to learn about the leaders of the Russian AI industry in order to create new partnerships.

“Huawei brings Pervasive Intelligent Computing with Chip Innovation to solve different tasks of the customers. That’s why we are interested in different partnerships in the field of AI”, said MR Liuyu (Leo), Head of Russian Intelligent Computing Business Department (Eurasia Region).

The Almanac includes information about core technologies and applications across key companies, universities and private groups.

Its main focus, however, is Strategy. In other words, how can Russia use the report information to formulate and enhance its own AI strategy?

“The lack of high-quality information leads to potential errors in management decisions,” says Igor Pivovarov, Chief analyst of the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research.

“We gathered all the information about the state of the AI industry in Russia and made a first-class analytical report. We are confident that this will contribute to the growth of the market and the adoption of the right management decisions at all levels”.

The Almanac report was written with participation by MIPT, HSE, Skoltech and analytical team IP Laboratory. The work was also supported by Sberbank, Analytical Center of the Russian Government and the Ministry of Digital Development and Communications.

You can download a copy of the report in English, Russian or Chinese on the official website here.
