London-based StorageOS Raises £5.9M from Bain Capital

Data storage firm StorageOS secured £5.9M Series A

London-based data storage firm StorageOS has secured £5.9 million ($8 million) in a Series A round led by Bain Capital Ventures and also backed by MMC Ventures and 645 Ventures. The fresh trove of cash will now be invested in further develop the company’s product, and drive its global sales.

Founded in 2015 by Alex Chircop, Chris Brandon, and  Simon Croome, the company has created a data storage platform for containers and clouds. It claims that its software product  “addressed the need for persistent storage with a solution that can operate on any platform.”

Commenting on the round, StorageOS’s CEO Brandon said in a statement: “DevOps and containers are growing at an unprecedented rate, but without persistent storage for container environments, enterprises are stuck using legacy tools and cannot adopt agile, cloud-native technology like Kubernetes, OpenShift or Docker

“This funding enables StorageOS to support enterprise organizations – specifically financial services, service providers and retailers – as they seek to adopt containers in production for modern application development.”

Bain Capital Ventures’ managing director Salil Deshpande  also commented on the deal: “Storage is the Achilles Heel of containers. StorageOS is perfectly matched to drive adoption of container technology because it gives container-based applications storage that is policy-driven, scalable, deterministic and low-latency, all while encrypting data at rest and in-flight, for containers running anywhere – on bare metal, or on virtual machines – or in cloud environments,” he said. “It makes both ‘dev’ and ‘ops’ easier by natively integrating with leading technologies like Kubernetes and OpenShift to orchestrate storage.”

Deshpande is now going to join StorageOS’s board of directors as part of the deal.
