One Drop launches 8-hour blood glucose forecasts for type 2 diabetes patients

Digital therapeutics solutions company One Drop has announced on Saturday an expansion of their AI-powered app to include 8-hour blood glucose forecasts for users with type 2 diabetes.

The app, which is called Predictive Insights, is the only one on the market able to provide glucose forecasts for people with this type of diabetes.

One Drop’s app works through artificial intelligence algorithms trained on more than 2.2 billion data points from over 1.2 million users.

According to the company, the machine learning app can currently predict glucose levels up to 24 hours into the future with accuracy rates of over 90 per cent.

Together with each 8-hour forecast, Predictive Insights users also receive behavioural advice curated by behavioural scientists and clinicians and tailored to their glucose level.

“You can only learn so much by looking back at what already happened,” said Dr Dan Goldner, VP of Data Science Operations at One Drop. “We want to empower you to look ahead—to see what’s coming and know what you can do about it.

“Like the collision-avoidance system in your car,” he explained, “glucose forecasts give you information in time for you to take action and shape the course of your diabetes.”

Commenting on the news, Jeff Dachis, Founder and CEO of One Drop, highlighted the importance of predicting the developments of certain conditions’ symptoms and treatment.

“For too long, healthcare has been reactive, and focused on treating symptoms after conditions and complications develop,” he said. “With One Drop, we now have the capability to be predictive, proactive and focused on the future, and change behavior before problems ever occur.”

One Drop is currently presenting the app’s new features at The American Diabetes Association’s Scientific Sessions at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
